Daring rescue: 25-year-old woman freed from Chandigarh Hotel in sex trafficking sting

In a courageous operation, police in Chandigarh successfully rescued a 25-year-old woman from Madhya Pradesh who had been pushed into sex trafficking under the guise of employment opportunities. The rescue mission unveiled a distressing sex trafficking racket that had ensnared the victim.

The rescue operation took place at a hotel located in Kajheri village in Chandigarh, where the victim was being held against her will. The police conducted this operation after apprehending three men believed to be involved in the sex trafficking racket. The arrested individuals were identified as Sunil Kumar, 29, from Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh (UP); Jasbir Kumar, 25, from Pathankot; and Birjesh Kumar, 24, from Amethi, UP.

The operation unfolds

Authorities received critical information about the sexual exploitation of trafficked women occurring at various hotels within Kajheri village. In response to these alarming reports, the Chandigarh Police, with assistance from the Women and Child helpline, initiated a raid at Hotel Maan, leading to the rescue of the 25-year-old victim. Subsequently, she was relocated to Nari Niketan, Sector 26, for her safety.

During the investigation, it was disclosed that Raj, also known as Ramu, the owner of Hotel Maan, was the mastermind behind the trafficking racket. Sunil, the hotel manager, along with cooks Jasbir and Birjesh, played a pivotal role in luring vulnerable women from various states under the false promise of lucrative job opportunities in Chandigarh. Instead, these women were forced into sexual exploitation, serving the criminal interests of the traffickers.

Inspector Om Parkash, the station house officer (SHO) at Sector 36 police station, stated, "On sustained interrogation, it was revealed that Raj, alias Ramu, owner of Hotel Maan is the racket’s kingpin. Hotel manager Sunil, and cooks Jasbir and Birjesh used to lure poor women from different states, promising them good jobs in Chandigarh, but pushed them into sexual exploitation for their benefit."

Search for the main culprit

While significant progress was made in apprehending three individuals involved in the racket, the alleged kingpin, Raj, along with other accomplices, remains at large. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to locate and apprehend the key suspects.

In the legal proceedings that followed the operation, Sunil was remanded to one-day police custody by a local court, while the other two accused, Jasbir and Birjesh, were remanded to judicial custody. The crackdown on this sex trafficking racket underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat human trafficking and protect the vulnerable from such heinous crimes.
